What to consider before building a website
As you may have seen, one of things I love to assist clients with is creating websites, alongside training them how to make the updates and crafting the strategy for launch!
Through my experience, here are some of the top things I recommend you consider when building a website...
#1 - What does it need to do and say?
This is where it all needs to start... knowing exactly what you need!!
Before starting to design and develop a website, you should have a clear understanding of its purpose and goals.
Unfortunately, this is also usually where people get stuck. And without it, can send people off on a tangent...
Without being clear, we can waste a lot of time.
Ask yourself questions like: what is the website for? Who is the target audience? What specific actions do you want users to take on the website?
#2 - How do you want it to look?
Having a clear idea of the style of your website is a great place to start.
Have a look around - what inspires you?
What colour palette are you going to choose?
What fonts are you going to use? - Ensure these are available for download so that you can upload them to Squarespace.
Make yourself a moodboard of screenshots that you find along your way.
#3 - When will you make it and launch it?
Don't get stuck in perfectionism. Your website will always be a working progress - what does it need to say and do now?
Don't feel you have to do it all yourself, or even hand it over fully to someone. I work 1:1 to help you create the perfect website for you.
#4 - How will people find it?
Do you need to spend time on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) where content
Or will you spend most of your time promoting it through social media,
Will it be listed on your Business Card?
Are there some online directories which you can link from?
#5 - How will you edit & update it?
Keeping your website up to date is very important as you don't want your potential clients to see old information or old pricing!
Google also loves to see your website updated for SEO!
Ensure that you have a way to create these updates, whether this is
How will you keep consistent with updates and changes? Having a monthly meeting can do wonders for
I wouldn’t advise being completely reliant on your web developer as not only will this cost you a lot of money, but will also mean you can’t make instant updates when you need them.
